Who we are
Odoardo Gialletti, founder with Riccardo Cotarella of the Winery, has always been a vintner. Ever since he was in his teens he has had to work in the fields and vineyards. At the time wine-growing was emerging from an age-old lethargy, preparing to take on new agronomic models and new wine-making techniques. Odoardo, dynamic and curious, courageously attempted new experiments, and was enthusiastic at the progress made with an eye to producing a truly great wine.
Around the end of the 1960s he opened a hotel and a restaurant, enabling him to experience wine “from the other side of the fence”. A few years later he decided that he wanted to be a winemaker” and devote himself to the production of an important, even complex, wine, to be appreciated by the senses and not only by the intellect. So he returned to his vineyards hoping to produce the wine he had dreamed of. Times however had changed and it was not easy to find the right combination of grapes, terrain, seasoned with wisdom, humility and patience. His encounter with the young Riccardo Cotarella was like a bolt from the blue for Riccardo was the right man to turn his idea into reality. “La Carraia” saw the light.
The results were “Poggio Calvelli”, “Fobiano” , “Tizzonero” and, most recently, “Giro di Vite”. Odoardo Gialletti however was not satisfied and with the certainty of having done something well, he wanted to do even better. Today with his two sons, Marco and Mauro, he supervises a large team of workers, and continues his collaboration with the enologist Riccardo Cotarella.
